   Newell First Church of the Nazarene ~ Newell, West Virginia  

Once again we have had the privilege of experiencing the ministry of Rev. Duane Smith and his wife Ruth. The preaching and singing was superb, with many hearts finding needs met at the altar. God’s blessings continue to follow their ministry of sharing the Good News of sins forgiven and the purity of heart holiness. It has truly been a joy to have them in our church.

We just enjoyed one of the most moving and exciting Camp Meetings many of us can remember. Hearts were cleansed; lives were transformed; relationships were healed; attitudes were adjusted; plans were re-directed, families were united; the Holy Spirit infused believers with power and love.

Duane & Ruth Smith serve as a combination of grace and firmness in presenting God's message. They speak it, and they live it. Brother Duane's music and sermons easily reached into hearts and brought the truth of God's Word into our lives.

In holy cooperation with our Youth Camp team, the message was proclaimed clearly to all ages. It was common to see 12 year olds, 22 year olds, 62 year olds, and any other age at the same altar. A sweet relationship with the young people was built around the meals and around the courtyard. They are genuine and relational, their hearts are for the Lord, and their lives are for service to Him.

The Holy Spirit worked mightily during our revival at the New Life Church of the Nazarene. "New Life" was the name selected when the Miami and the Picher, Oklahoma congregations combined a few months ago. Pastor Casey, wife Cynthia and 5 month old son Grayson Hollingsworth are being used of God to lead the congregation to great days ahead. Their people were warm and friendly. As they hungered for the truth of God's word many had their needs met. God revived His people to a new level of vision and commitment. It doesn't matter how many revivals I've conducted, I never cease to be amazed at how God works where people are open and obedient to His leading. It was a privilege to serve them and the song writer expresses it best, "To God be the glory great things He has done."

Duane Smith's ministry to the Parkview Church was excellent. His messages were relevant, challenging and thought-provoking. He is not a whiz-bang fire-breathing preacher. He simply lays the truth of the scriptures before the people in a convincing way that forces the listener to reflect and respond. He clearly allows the Holy Spirit to do the heart work. Duane also made it a point to connect with EVERYONE, from the young child to the teen, and on to the Sr. adult. He brings the whole package, singing, leading the congregation in song and preparing them for the message. Finally, Duane and Ruth are sociable people. They are happy to mix with the people in church and over a meal. I recommend Duane Smith for a series of services.

We had a wonderful REVIVAL with Rev. Duane & Ruth Smith. We have had the Smiths several times and each meeting gets better. The Lord’s presence was felt in each service. We began preparing for the revival six months ahead. We were expecting great things from our God and He never fails. God has made dramatic changes in the lives of His people, teenagers found God's call in their lives, families have been renewed, encouraged and a single mother of three teens has been set free from bondage that held her captive for over three years. Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb! We are already looking forward to our next revival with the Smiths.

Hi,

I just wish you and Rev. Smith could come and preach to us every night and I wish we could have revival every night because it really touched me. You can tell Duane that if you want I will right him sometime. I really like the song he sang, “He’s still in the fire” and he sings it really good. I wish you guys did not have to leave tomorrow. I wish I could just go to revival every night and have him touch me by Gods will. I really thought he had a good idea about the teen choir surround sound thing and it was really fun, but it was mostly fun because we were doing it for God. I know you guys have to go to Arkansas and touch other people like you guys touched me, and I know it is part of being an evangelist. I hope I will see you guys again sometime, but at least we can stay in touch by e-mail, so I hope you have fun traveling to Arkansas tomorrow.

Our church at Mackey, IN has experienced another productive revival with Rev. and Mrs Duane Smith. This is are fifth time to have the Smiths. We have always found their ministry inviting, relevant and very effective. They carry a sincere burden on their heart to help individuals and churches experience spiritual victory and growth. Rev. Smith is a man of prayer, an outstanding singer, gifted Bible preacher and seeks God's fresh anointing. Duane preaches Bible holiness in an understandable way that relates to all ages. In this revival we have had children, teens and adults respond to the invitation finding victory at an altar of prayer.

As a concerned pastor for revival, I thank God for a team like Duane and Ruth Smith. They are neat in appearance, positive in attitude and very congenial among the people. I am grateful for the interest they show through pre-revival preparation in sending the church, bulletin inserts for seven Sundays leading up to the revival. God is truly using them in evangelism and results at the altar verify such. I highly recommend them to the church that desires revival. Let us keep God-called dedicated evangelist like the Smith's busy by scheduling them.

The Tuscaloosa Indoor Camp Meeting was a joyous time of God's presence. Duane’s music and the Zone Choir were outstanding and ministered to our people. There was a gentle breeze of God's presence blowing throughout the meeting. It was a time of soul searching as God spoke to us about His will for our lives. Issues were settled and commitments made in people’s lives and we will never be the same. There are evangelists and there are God-called evangelists. I have known Duane and Ruth for over 30 years and they are God-called evangelists. It was another great revival at Whitney, TX Church of the Nazarene. They are a growing and healthy congregation under the leadership of Pastor Greg and Debra Johnson. We had another great revival as they put finishing touches on their new fellowship hall. Several nearby churches attended the services throughout the week and the Hillsboro, TX Church of the Nazarene made this a revival for their church as well. We have always had great revivals here, and since this was our seventh time to be at Whitney, TX, it was like having a revival at your family reunion. Among all the fun, food and fellowship, there was plenty of deep spiritual help received.

Rev. Bob Kilpatrick said, "I spent more time in preparing for this revival than any other in my entire ministry. I started in January. The revival was in October, and is it any wonder that the altars were lined in every service with young and old alike finding help." Large number of teens had recently started attending and they were very attentive, receptive and open to the truth of God's Word. Is it any wonder that many of their lives were changed by their obedience as the Spirit of God moved throughout the week. This was our second time to work with Pastor Kilpatrick at the Cambrian Park Church of the Nazarene in San Jose, CA and both times we found the congregation to be some of the friendliest, sincere and eager people to preach to and have revival. To God be all the glory for the great things He did.

Just a quick note this evening to let you know that the revival fires are still burning! God certainly used you in a mighty way as you labored among us. I know many churches our size wonder if they can have revival services due to cost, etc. I'd like to share this with them, "Yes! You can!" Here is what we do. I, along with the church board directed the church treasurer to put everything that comes in as "loose offering" into a revival fund. All of our people know this, and it is like Faith Promise, except it is for Revival. They give a little each week and this enables us to give a decent offering to the laborer in the vineyard. Thanks again for including Vidor, Tx in your schedule. We hope to see you again in a few years.

Dear Duane,

 I just wanted to drop you and Ruth a quick note to say thank you.  Thank you for the wonderful revival messages this past week at the Church of the Nazarene.  I was so convicted on Monday night to think that my idea of being a Christian was so skewed.  The Holy Spirit really spoke to me that night and during the other services too!

 West Virginia Camp Meeting

Dr. V. H. Lewis said, "The West Virginia Camp Meeting is the best kept secret in the Church of the Nazarene. God's Spirit was powerfully manifested on everyone that attended. Their beautiful new tabernacle was filled with God's presence in each service and many received help around the altars and front chairs nightly. It was our privilege to work with Evangelist Nelson Perdue and both West Virginia District Superintendents, Dr. Mervin Smith and Rev. Kevin Dennis. What a blessing it was to serve such gracious people.
